Lacoste 1933: a pop-up event in Seoul
From 14th to 19th May 2024, a pop-up event dedicated entirely to Lacoste polo shirts was set up in Seoul's trendy Seongsu-dong neighbourhood. Here's a look back at a truly unique event.
Polo passion
Inaugurated on a day when numerous celebrities, including Lacoste ambassador Ahn Hyo-seop himself demonstrated their own style in Lacoste polo shirts, this pop-up paid tribute to the iconic tricolour. Invented in 1933 by René Lacoste, the polo shirt found a new outlet in Seoul to bridge the gap between French elegance and the Korean capital. What lay behind the vintage façade of the Lacoste 1933 pop-up? Exhibitions, polo shirts and souvenirs.
The ‘Lacoste Heritage’ floor
A superb exhibition space, the first floor retraced the history of René Lacoste. Polo shirts from the Troyes archives were also on display, as were numerous sketches of the Lacoste crocodile, as many logos that have stood the test of time. ‘Lacoste Heritage’ also featured films on the history of Lacoste, as well as polo shirts from the brand's various collaborations.
It was on this floor that the work of artist Kim-Eun-ha was presented. Inspired by the iconic crocodile, he used unsold Lacoste items to create his own version of the reptile in the form of works of art.
The ‘French Lifestyle’ floor
With the aim of anchoring the brand's original elegance in today's world, the second floor was the place to be for all polo lovers. From the Original L.12.12 to the most fashionable polo, they were all presented in a space for enthusiasts. Vintage polo shirts rubbed shoulders with new models and, in a nod to 1933, visitors were invited to immerse themselves in the French culture of the era through a vintage postcard station, a bookshop selling French art books, a music area and a photo booth.
A café and a florist
Lacoste 1933 was also an opportunity to enjoy exclusive experiences. On its outdoor terrace, Le Café Lacoste offered food in the colours of the crocodile, while Le Jardin Lacoste offered different bouquets of flowers in the most famous colours of polo.
