Ellen von Unwerth

Lacoste Taps iconic fashion photographer Ellen von Unwerth to curate & shoot a photo exhibit for Lacoste x Polaroid lifestyle collection.

The Collection of Photographs Will Be Auctioned off on Charitybuzz in Support of Abrons Arts Center in NYC and P.S. ARTS in LA.

To celebrate the launch of the Lacoste x Polaroid capsule collection, Lacoste has joined forces with famed fashion photographer Ellen von Unwerth for an exclusive photo exhibit — all shot on the limited edition Lacoste x Polaroid 600 Instant Camera. Von Unwerth’s career spans three decades and is known for her distinct edgy, provocative yet playful style that can be seen through her work with some of the most famous women in the world including Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Madonna, Kim Kardashian, Jessica Chastain, Naomi Campbell and many more. She is also the 2020 recipient of the Award for Editorial, Advertising and Fashion Photography from the Royal Photographic Society (the world’s oldest photographic society), making her one of the most in demand photographers today.

“I wanted to do something very free spirited so I asked some of my friends to join me with their roller-skates or skateboards and used the colorful backdrops of the NY and Paris streets made by artists to create something which as a whole looks like a piece of art itself. Knowing that all the Polaroids were going to be auctioned for charity, I wanted to create a joyful, inspiring story,” Ellen von Unwerth explains.

The exhibit will be on display in both the Lacoste Prince Street Store in NYC and the Lacoste Melrose Place concept store in LA from March 19 to early April and consists of 44 Polaroid photos exclusive to each location. While the bold, carefree and colorful nature of the collection serves as inspiration, this gallery experience truly brings Ellen’s instantly recognizable and quintessential feministic aesthetic to life.

Upon conclusion of the exhibit, the Polaroids will be auctioned off by Charitybuzz with proceeds benefiting P.S. ARTS in LA and Abrons Arts Center in NYC, as chosen by Ellen and Lacoste. P.S. ARTS is dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing arts education to underserved public schools and communities. P.S. ARTS is the only organization in Southern and Central California that provides high quality arts education in dance, music, theater, and visual arts to every child in a school during the regular school day and after-school. Abrons Arts Center is a home for contemporary interdisciplinary arts in Manhattan’s Lower East Side neighborhood. A core program of the Henry Street Settlement, Abrons believes that access to the arts is essential to a free and healthy society. Through performance presentations, exhibitions, education programs, and residencies, Abrons mobilizes communities with the transformative power of art.
